季節のヨガ — SEASONAL YOGA RETREATS

Seasonal Yoga Retreats

Restore balance, reconnect with yourself, and move with the rhythm of the seasons.

Join us for a Seasonal Yoga Retreat at Shizuka Ryokan — Australia’s only traditional Japanese ryokan wellness retreat. Choose a peaceful two-night stay or a rejuvenating three-night stay, and immerse yourself in yoga, seasonal Japanese meals, massage and the quiet beauty of our gardens in Hepburn Springs. With Renee Willner as your guide, you’ll explore postures, breathwork, meditation and deep relaxation — and whether you’re new to yoga or experienced, each retreat is designed to meet you where you are.

We’re happy to accommodate a variety of requests, including prenatal and couples yoga.

五行 — THE FIVE ELEMENTS

Living with the seasons

Each retreat is inspired by the Five Elements — fire, earth, metal, water and wood. In yoga, this becomes postures, breathwork and meditation practices that harmonise with nature’s rhythms, so each season’s retreat carries its own character.

Spring — Wood

Growth, renewal, flexibility. Twists to cleanse and refresh, dynamic vinyasa flow to awaken energy, side bends and expansive stretches, and sun salutations to celebrate vitality. Meditation turns to visualisation for new beginnings, and the journaling of intentions.

Summer — Fire

Joy, expansion, communication. Heart-opening postures and backbends, paired and group practices to encourage connection, cooling pranayama, and voice and sound work to express inner energy. Meditation rests in loving-kindness and gratitude.

Late summer — Earth

Grounding, nourishment, centering. Standing poses with stable bases, core-strengthening postures to connect with the centre, gentle twists to aid digestion, and balanced flows that cultivate stability over intensity. Meditation moves through the body scan, and mindfulness for digestion and presence.

Autumn — Metal

Release, clarity, letting go. Breath-focused postures — camel, bridge and chest openers — sequences for the lung and large-intestine meridians, slow flows moving toward stillness, and yin yoga with long holds to support introspection. Meditation takes the form of journaling, reflection and mindful breathing.

Winter — Water

Stillness, depth, inner strength. Forward folds and hip openers to encourage introspection, restorative poses with bolsters and blankets for deep rest, gentle inversions, and nadi shodhana — alternate-nostril breathing — to balance energy. Meditation deepens into silence, mantra, and visualising inner reservoirs of strength.

森林浴 — FOREST THERAPY

The forest, slowly

Included on three-night retreats.

Forest bathing — shinrin-yoku — is a modern wellness practice with roots in the age-old relationship between humans and trees. Spending time in nature with focused attention has physical, emotional, mental and spiritual benefits, and restores our ability to relate to the natural world in mutually beneficial ways.

Our relational forest therapy walks are slow, sensory and guided by a qualified practitioner — deeply connective and revitalising, tuning the senses, practising heart-centred embodiment, and following the threads of pleasure and curiosity present in each moment.
