Set amid four acres of undulating bushland, Shizuka Ryokan offers a traditional Japanese experience. Guestrooms feature futon bedding, tatami straw matting, shoji rice paper sliding screens, tokonoma alcoves, zaisu chairs, zabuton cushions and kotatsu low tables. With the intimacy of just six guestrooms, Shizuka Ryokan offers traditional Japanese accommodation with an Australian twist—the grounds are often visited by kangaroos, echidnas and native birdlife.
Our room rates—when purchased on our website —include a guestroom with either a deep Japanese soaking bath or a spa bath, a private Japanese garden, breakfast daily and a leisurely 11:00am checkout. At Shizuka Ryokan, the emphasis is on relaxation. To that end, we do not have televisions or telephones in our guestrooms. Whilst very popular with couples, singles and small groups, the ryokan is not an appropriate venue for babies and children under the age of 16.
We are renowned for the hospitality of our Japanese staff and our authentic cuisine. As well as a banquet Japanese dinner, our menus also feature a traditional Japanese breakfast so rarely offered in Australia. (Western style breakfasts are available should you prefer)
We offer award winning spa services to augment your accommodation booking. We recommend that you reserve these spa treatments as early as possible as appointments book out during busy periods. While Shizuka Ryokan guests take priority when it comes to spa bookings, we welcome members of the public to come and enjoy the spa.
Cancellation fees apply to all accommodation and spa therapy bookings.
A visit to Shizuka Ryokan is frequently enjoyed by couples celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. We offer Gift Vouchers for that unique and personal gift. Vouchers can be easily ordered on this website.
We look forward to welcoming you to Shizuka Ryokan, Australia’s first fully authentic Japanese style retreat.
