Shizuka Ryokan offers truly authentic Japanese style accommodation in each of its six intimate guestrooms.

Of all its traditional features, it is perhaps the tatami straw matting which best evokes the feeling of being in Japan.

The rustic appearance, the slightly spongey feel under foot and, perhaps most of all, the aroma of the fresh straw illustrate the true authenticity of Shizuka Ryokan.

At Shizuka Ryokan, guests feel completely comfortable sitting on the floor on zabuton pillows atop low chairs ... or on the cane chairs overlooking their private courtyard garden ... before perhaps luxurating in their double-sized spa bath overlooking the illuminated private garden ... then drifting off to sleep on soft luxurious futon bedding.

The type of guests who particularly enjoy visiting Shizuka Ryokan are varied. Most are from Australia, perhaps being those who appreciate the Japanese aesthetic or are simply after an indulgent getaway or are people seeking a truly different experience.

Couples

Shizuka is an ideal romantic retreat. Its small size combined with its intimate ambience creates a perfect getaway destination for couples. Many have used their stay to celebrate special occasions such as anniversaries. Indeed more than a few have chosen Shizuka Ryokan as the idyllic backdrop for proposals of marriage!

Individuals

The peace and tranquility of Shizuka provide a very comfortable environment for individuals to enjoy an escape from the rigours of everyday life.

Private Groups

As Shizuka’s guestrooms can accommodate single, double or twin share occupancy, the ryokan can offer accommodation for a total of up to 12 people. It is accordingly an ideal destination for small groups, particularly for those seeking total indulgence from the extensive menu of body spa services. It is therefore not surprising that “girls’ weekends” at Shizuka Ryokan are a popular choice for that fun and indulgent time away. In fairness to other potential guests, groups of more than six guests need to reserve all six guestrooms. 

Celebrations

Whatever the size of the party, many of our guests use their stay to celebrate special occasions. Apart from birthdays and anniversaries, Shizuka has also been host to intimate weddings.  Our management is happy to help arrange your special celebration or surprise. With advance notice, we can even offer individually designed and home-made cakes for that special event.

Corporate Groups

Shizuka Ryokan’s facilities are also popular with the corporate sector, offering tailor-made functions such as residential workshops, meetings, retreats, media launches, photographic opportunities and daytime seminars. Our event management experience can help create the perfect function in a truly unique setting. Restrictions

In the interests of respecting the needs of our broad range of guests, Shizuka Ryokan must impose several basic limitations.

• Smoking
  In the interests of both health and safety, Shizuka Ryokan is a non-smoking environment. We respectfully ask all guests to please respect the reality that the area is potentially very fire prone.
• Babies and Children
  Shizuka Ryokan is an adult retreat, intentionally offering a tranquil environment without the intrusions of television or telephones. Accordingly, it is not a suitable environment for babies or children under the age of 16.
• Television and Internet
  Shizuka Ryokan does not offer television, internet or desks in its guestrooms.
• Groups In fairness to other potential guests, groups of more than six guests need to reserve all six guestrooms.
